On a hill in Carroll County, Va. and just 1.5 miles to the Blue Ridge Parkway is Fernwood Cabin. The cabin is just 15 minutes from Hillsville and Galax, Va. and sits on the edge of the Crooked Creek Area. About 10 miles from the cabin is the New River Trail. Come walk or bike the New River Trail. Stay in a log cabin which is new, nicely furnished with hardwood floors and an oriental rugs in the living room/kitchen area and the sitting area on the second floor. At the entrance,a sofa and upholstered chair sit next to a stacked stone electric fireplace with remote. An antique reproduction kitchen table and four chairs are in the kitchen which has pine cabinets. There is a walnut three drawer chest against the wall steps. The down stairs bedroom has a queen size poster bed and a ball footed chest which sits on a room sized rug. The full bath is on the first floor. A large flat screen tv sits above the rock fireplace mantle with a dvd player available. There is a radio and cd player available. Now with WiFI.

The back door of the cabin takes you to a covered deck that overlooks the mountains. Sit on rockers on the porch or eat your meals on the porch table. A rock walk leads to the front porch which faces out toward the entrance road and a wooded lot across the road. Four large rocking chairs are available to sit on the two porches. The road is paved to the house which has a gravel driveway that runs next to the house.The home has a heat pump and is comfortable both in the summer and winter.

There is a loft and the rails surround the top of the second floor. The second bedroom which has an opened side toward the main living area, has a maple bedroom suit, desk and chest of drawer. On this floor there is also a 1/2 bath. On the main loft area there is a small love seat and chair sitting on an oriental-like rug.

The home is located only minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Crooked Creek Fee Fishing Wildlife Area and New Equestrian Center. Crooked Creek includes six miles of trout streams (some sections are stocked) plus 1,600 acres of mountain land available for hunting deer, turkey, rabbits, squirrels and grouse. The area is home to the New River Trail which is recognized as one of the top ten mountain bike trails in the United States. The cabin is less than two miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway. You can hike, bike or ride horses along the New River. The New River Trail is approximately 20 minutes from the cabin.Close to many mountain cultural events, we hope you will chose us for your visit to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Also nearby is the Blue Ridge Mountain Music Center (5 miles down the Parkway from cabin), the Hillsville Va. Labor Day Flea Market, the Galax Fiddler’s Convention and many numerous events. You are only a stone’s throw from Mt. Airy which is the home of Andy Griffith. The cabin is approximately 9 miles from Interstate 77 and Highway 52 at Fancy Gap, Va. Convenient to Galax and Hillsville,Va.

Hike, bike on the New River Trail ,canoe on the New River, golf, fish, ride horses, float down a river. Return to a simpler way of life. NOW WITH WIFI.
